AZTECH RENEWABLES · ETTRICK · NORTHERN RIVERS
Power planning starts with your property and how you use it. Based in Ettrick, AzTech Renewables helps homeowners, farms and businesses explore solar, battery and off-grid options across Kyogle and the Northern Rivers.
Whether you are planning a new build without a grid connection or looking at an existing standalone system, the first step is understanding what needs to run, when it runs and what may change in the future.

Start with the loads, not a package size
A list of appliances is more useful than choosing a system from panel or battery size alone. Refrigeration, water pumps, cooking, hot water, workshop equipment and air conditioning can place very different demands on a system. Equipment starting at the same time also matters.
Include how often the property is occupied, the appliances you want to use together, and any planned changes such as a larger shed, electric vehicle or additional accommodation. For an existing property, electricity bills and any available monitoring records can help build the picture.
How the parts work together
- Solar generation: panel location, shading and available roof or ground space influence the design.
- Battery storage: storage supports use when solar generation is low, including overnight. Usable capacity and operating limits matter as well as the headline capacity.
- Inverter and controls: these need to suit the appliances, peak demand and the rest of the system.
- Backup generation: discuss whether a generator is appropriate for extended poor weather or particular loads, and how it would integrate.
The right combination depends on your requirements. An off-grid system needs a plan for changing weather and changing demand; adding more panels alone does not resolve every limitation.
New properties and existing systems
For a new property, useful early details include the proposed building location, available equipment space, anticipated appliances and construction timing. Compare your options before making decisions that depend on the electrical design.
If you already have solar, batteries, an inverter or a generator, send the make and model details and describe what is working or causing trouble. Compatibility, equipment condition and the existing installation need to be assessed before recommending additions or replacement.
What to have ready for a first conversation
- Your suburb or postcode and whether the property has grid power.
- How the property is used: full-time home, occasional accommodation, farm or business.
- The main appliances, pumps and equipment you want to run.
- Existing equipment model details and available monitoring information.
- Any plans, photographs of the proposed equipment area, and your preferred timeframe.
You do not need to know the technical solution before getting in touch. A clear description of the property and your priorities is a useful starting point.
Common off-grid questions
Is a battery added to grid-connected solar the same as an off-grid system?
No. A standalone system must support the property without relying on the grid. Grid-connected battery systems vary in their backup capability, and existing equipment needs to be checked before considering a change.
Can I use my current solar panels or batteries?
Possibly, but it depends on their condition, specifications and compatibility with the proposed design. Supply the model information so the options can be assessed rather than assuming everything can be reused.
What happens during cloudy weather?
The design needs to account for reduced solar generation, stored energy and how electricity is used. Backup generation may be part of that plan. The suitable approach depends on the loads and the level of continuity you need.
Can the system grow later?
Future expansion is easier to consider during the initial design. Tell us about likely additions now; whether an existing system can expand depends on its equipment and installation.
